What Is Meant by the Term "Son of God"?

Anak Allah

Does the Bible teach that God begat Jesus? In other words, is Jesus is the result of a biological/sexual union? This is the understanding many people have who have not yet studied and understood the teaching of the Bible. In the view of Christians and of the Bible such teaching is the greatest slander!

The Bible never taught that God approached a woman, and from this biological relationship that woman gave birth to Jesus the Son of God. There is no Christian who teaches this teaching, which belittles and slanders God.

The Son of God, according to the Bible and in the view of Christians, always has a metaphorical or figurative meaning. Isn't the word "son/child" often used metaphorically in the culture and language of Indonesia? Isn't it so that when the following questions are proposed, the answer always is "NO?"

Has a ship ever produced a "son of a ship?" Has a hill ever given birth to "son of a hill?" Has a sentence ever given birth to a "son of a sentence?" Has a ladder ever given birth to a "son of a ladder"? Has a river ever given birth to a "son of a river?" Has the city of Jakarta ever given birth to a "son of the city of Jakarta>" Has a village ever given birth to a "son of a village?"

In the Bible, Jesus as the Son of God means the same as the Word of God. His existence as the Son of God is not based on his birth in Bethlehem and his death on the hill of Golgotha. The Son of God already existed before the creation of the universe. The Son of God is eternal in the essence of God All One and Almighty.

Jesus Christ is called the Son of God because He perfectly reveals God to humanity. He is the Word of God and perfectly explains the will and character of God to humanity. As the Son and Word of God, Jesus shows the love and holiness and salvation of God to humanity.

The revelation of God in the Bible found in Hebrews 1:1-3 explains this truth: "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power."

The Bible also explains this truth also in the Gospel of John 1:1-2, 14: "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God. . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth."

The Qur'an clearly states:

"In The Name Of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is he beggeten; And there is none like unto him."

Qs. 19:35 says, “It befits not (the majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When he decrees a thing, He says unto it only: Be! and it is."

So you are saying that Allah is a liar? He is talking about the Christians. Should I point out more proof to you? May Allah curse you for you innovations!

Dear Russell,

Thank you for your comment. These surahs are correct! Allah cannot beget! Allah's majesty would be lowered if he were to physically have a son.

As the above article states, Isa is not the physical Son of God. He was not created by Allah. Even the Quran doesn't say that Allah created Isa. It says, "He said: ‘So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us': It is a matter (so) decreed’” (Qs.19:21).
