Why do children rebel against their parents? Why do people hate others or seek revenge? Why does a marriage end in divorce? Why do we lie? Why is there murder? Why is mankind always at war?
Everything mentioned above has been happening almost from the beginning of mankind. The first man and woman (Adam and Eve) walked and talked directly with their loving Creator God in the very beginning. But then the couple chose to disobey the only commandment that the Lord God gave them: “. . . from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:17).
Adam and Eve’s willful disobedience (sin) was now exposed before their loving Creator. So God drove them out of their perfect garden home which He had prepared for them as an everlasting home. Their sin nature was shortly revealed in their first sons, Cain and Abel, when Cain killed Abel because of jealousy. (Read the story in Genesis 2:7 ‑ Genesis 4:12.)
Looking back on mankind’s long history, it becomes very clear that something evil has happened to the human race. There have been broken families, abuse, lying, stealing, selfishness, murder, wars, etc..., from the very beginning. Children do not have to be taught to rebel or lie. Rather, they have to be taught to love, show kindness, and tell the truth.
Individuals must see themselves as God sees them. They must confess their sins to God. They must tell God that they are helpless to change themselves. And they need to ask Him to change their lives.
That is why Jesus Christ came to Earth and gave up his life on the cross over 2,000 years ago. Jesus came to bear our sins and free us from our sin and guilt. He came to give us His power to live as God desired us to live when He first made us in His own image. Jesus conquered death (the punishment for sin) by rising from the grave.
If you will put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior, His power will deliver you from your sin and sin’s punishment. “For, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Injil, Romans 10:13). He will give you eternal life with Himself.
