Muhammad

Did Muhammad Sin?

Some commentators claim that Muhammad did not sin but this is difficult to substantiate. On the other hand some use the fact of his being a sinner to show that he was just an ordinary human being. If indeed Muhammad did not sin why in Sura 33:56 are Muslims commanded to “Ask blessings on him”? The Arberry translation adds “and pray him peace.” If he was a sinless prophet (like Isa Al-Masih) why was he not taken directly to heaven? It is known that his body lies buried in Medina.

Irrespective of whether Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) sinned or not, what does that have to do with the legitimacy of his prophethood? Did not prophets in the Old Testament sin as well? Take Prophet David (pbuh) for example. What about Prophet Sulayman (pbuh); he had 300 wives and 800 concubines (female slaves with whom he took sexual pleasure in).

And wasn't Jesus The Messiah tempted by the devil? Are you telling me that God can be tempted to do evil?

Ghouri,

Jesus was tempted, but that is because He is man as well as God. The difference between Jesus and every other prophet is that although He was tempted, He never sinned. Because of His sinless life, Isa became the perfect sacrifice for the world.

Ghouri,

Jesus was led into the wilderness by the spirit to be tempted by Satan. This is not the same as him falling to temptation. Note that the Injil is clear, Jesus was not shaken by these temptations. He stood firm, so Jesus (as God incarnate) was not tempted-no one is claiming God can be tempted and fail to stand up to that temptation.

I have never heard a comment like that. You people really do not understand the meaning of divine guidance. Allah Himself sent peace on our Prophet.

Uzma,

What do you mean when you say we don't understand the meaning of divine guidance? And what does it mean to say Allah sent peace on Isa Al-Masih?

The belief that Jesus was taken directly to heaven in his body is a misconception of Christians and Muslims. This is not true. It is not the true teaching of Islam. The Quran denies this fake story.

God saved Jesus from crucifixion. He then migrated from Yeerosheelam to Kashmir by way of Syria, Afghanistan, nothern areas of Pakistan. He fulfilled his mission because he was sent from God to the 12 lost tribes of Bani Israel.

History and science have proven this fact. It is mentioned in the Quran and the Bible as well.

Benazeer,

Where is this teaching taught in the Quran and the Bible?

Jesus prophesied that his fate would be like that of the prophet Jonah.

Jesus said: "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (Injil, Matthew 12:39,40)

The sign of Jonah is given in the Bible: The Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry (Jonah 1:17, 2:1,2).

The sign given to the Ninevites by Jonah was that he was saved from certain death. He was in danger, but ultimately recovered. He went alive into the belly of the fish, stayed alive for 3 days, and came out alive.

The same fate was prophesied for Jesus. He would enter the tomb alive, stay alive for 3 days, and come out alive. If Jesus had died, there would be little resemblance to Jonah.

The story of Jonah is one of survival — not revival.

Benazeer,

God put Jonah in the belly of the fish to discipline him, not as a sign to the Ninevites. Jonah did not obey God the first time when he was told to go to Nineveh and preach of God's judgment, so God allowed him to be swallowed by a large fish.

When Jonah went to Nineveh, he did not preach about what happened to him in the whale. He preached, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown” (Jonah 3:4).

Jesus only said that the likeness between him and Jonah was the length of time they would be confined. Jesus never claims to be like Jonah in other ways. When Jesus' statement is read as a whole, it is clear that the likeness between Him in Jonah is confined to the time factor and nothing else. Jesus did not say that He would be alive in the tomb as Jonah was alive in the fish.
