Why Muslims Should Read the Injil

15 May 2012 by Caleb Rahmat 13 Comments

TruthIf you have the Qur’an, why read the Injil? Isn’t the Qur’an adequate? What is so special about the Injil?

Neither Muhammad nor Isa Al-Masih wrote down any scripture. But many people think they did. The Qur’an is a collection of books written by Muhammad’s companions after his death. The Injil (Gospels) is a set of four books written about the life and teachings of Isa-Al Masih by His disciples. But it is not important who physically wrote the words. What is important is who the words came from and how they came.

Where Did the Quran Come From?

Muhammad’s friends wrote the Quran after his death. They recorded the things Muhammad said he heard from a spirit being. Not from God Himself, but from a spirit-like being.

Isa Al-Masih Is the Word of God

The Injil was given in a much different way than all other scriptures. The Injil came directly from God. In both the Injil and the Qur’an, Isa Al-Masih is referred to as the “Word of God.” Isa Al-Masih’s disciples wrote down the very words of God from God!

The Word of God Lived Among Men

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Injil, Apostle John 1:1). God’s Word came to the world in human form. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (Injil, Apostle John 1:14).

The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Injil

The Injil was written by Isa Al-Masih’s disciples by divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit. Isa Al-Masih told His disciples, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (Injil, John 14:26). Not only was the Word of God given directly to men, but the Holy Spirit made sure His message was complete.

The Injil Is Unique Among All Books

The Injil is unique among all other religious books. As well as being the Word of God, it is also a biography of the earthly life of the Word of God. The Injil records the life of Isa Al-Masih from His birth to His return to the Father in Heaven.

Why God Wants You to Read the Injil

The reason for the writing of the Injil is summed-up in this verse. “But these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (Injil, John 20:31).No other book has ever been written that can lead people to salvation.

Isa Al-Masih said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). The initial explanation of the Bible has been changed. Certain words have been chosen and the meaning has been lost in obtaining an advantage for both parties.

      Teguh,

The Bible is unlike any other religious books. Despite forty authors writing from three continents over nearly two thousand years, it maintains a perfectly consistent message.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of 972 texts discovered between 1946 and 1956 that consists of biblical manuscripts dating back to the 2nd century BC. Every book from the Old Testament except Esther is in these manuscripts. They are completely consistent with the Bible in our hands now. This is probably the best proof of inerrant of the Bible apart from the divine provision of God.

So the question remains: Why did Allah protect the Quran, but was unable to protect the Injil? Also, why would you be ordered to believe in something that you claim is corrupt?

      Khadijah,

I assume that you are referring to the Bible in your second question. We do not claim it is corrupt. Muslims claim this, but we as Christians that God has, in fact, preserved the Bible.

I recommend that you read this article: https://www.isaandislam.com/the-bible/why-are-there-so-many-translations-of-the-bible.html.

It will tell you more about how we know the Bible has not been changed.

    Khadija,

The Bible is purely God’s word. The Bible and Jesus are tested through prophesies and miracles, as they portray God’s works.

Mohammed did not at anytime exercise Godly powers, that’s why we doubt where he received his power.

      Pascal,

You are right. The Bible is 100% God’s Word. As you said, it has been proven. This article gives some of those proofs: https://www.isaandislam.com/The-Bible/should-muslims-trust-the-bible.html

Qs 6:115 (Yusuf Ali), “The Word of thy Lord doth find its fulfillment in truth and in justice: none can change His Words: for He is the one who hears and knows all.”

If any of the earlier scriptures in the hands of the Christians at the time of Mohammed (pbuh) would have been changed then the following qur’anic statements would be meaningless as well:

Qs 5:47 (Shakir), “And the followers of the Injil should have judged by what Allah revealed in it; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors.”

How would Allah judge the Christians of the time of Mohammed (pbuh) by the Injil he had revealed to them if they didn’t have the authentic scripture in their hands? This command would be futile had the manuscripts been changed.

If the Injil was changed, where is the original copy?

      Stefan,

Thanks for your comment. God is powerful that He wouldn’t let His revelations to be changed. “The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, …” (Zabur, Psalm 12:6-7)

Christians, please wake up. Muslims don’t simply claim your Scriptures are corrupted because they feel like it. There is overwhelming evidence of theologically motivated changes in the manuscripts, committed by the scribes.

    1) 1 john 5:7 is a forgery by the ‘inspired scribes’
    2) The last 12 verses of mark were added after 400 yrs after Jesus.
    3) John 7:53-8:11( about Jesus and the adulteress) was forged.
    4) Luke 23:34 is absent in many ancient manuscripts.
    5) Luke 24:51 and 24:52 are absent from early manuscripts.
    6) Luke 24:6 and 24:12 are absent from old manuscripts.
    7) Mark 1:1 has no ” son of God” in old manuscripts.
There are many changes, but these few should lead honest Christians to search for the rest.

    Dear Muslim

Are you an expert in textual criticism, archeology? Your biblical criticism is 19th cent, bad-scholarship. You refer to some fragmented, damaged manuscripts after there were already complete copies in circulation.

However, since 1950es, there are about 1500 undamaged ancient Greek manuscripts of Mark and your other quotes with all verses of today’s’ Bible, including the ‘Son of God’. They predate the two manuscripts in which these verses are not found. Obviously, a later manuscript cannot nullify what existed earlier.

Secondly, all these verses were quoted by the early church fathers (like Vincentius, Aphraates, Eusebius, St. Augustine) 1st, to 3rd century before your so called ‘evidence’ of the missing text in the 4th century was found.

Thirdly, the earliest Bible translations into Gothic, Latin, Syriac, Armenian, and Coptic, produced and distributed in thousands before your ‘evidence’ was dated, in all the ancient world, show the presence of these verses too.

Muslim, you try your case on the basis of about 0.1% or less of the available manuscripts which stand against the high-quality evidence of the
remaining 99.9% of manuscripts, many of which were older than the manuscripts in which these
verses were missing. This is not scholarship, but rather bias theology paraded in the name of scholarship.

Please visit the British Museum in London, where you find the oldest two complete Bibles in the original Greek language displayed.

      Muslim and Stefan,

Those who want to learn the Taurat, Zabur, and Injil, are encouraged to learn them thoroughly, not fragmented. Also, these books are not merely books. These books contain God’s Word. If they learn it carefully, diligently, fervently, they will be changed in their minds.
