Is There an Arabic Version of the Gospel?

25 September 2012 by Web Administrator 7 Comments

Kitab-13Is there a Christian Gospel version or an Islamic Gospel version? Our question is: Where is the Islamic version of the Gospel? We have never found such a version! What is called the written Gospel is known as the New Testament. This Gospel was in circulation when Muhammad was born. Muhammad’s uncle, his wife Maryam, and Muhammad himself knew of this Gospel. When Islam was born, the Gospel had been in circulation for 500 years.

The Gospel of Barnabas – Another Gospel?

If there is another Gospel, we have never seen it. Certainly, it was not what is called the Gospel of Barnabas which became known only around 1300 AD. A lot of its contents are in conflict with the Quran and the New Testament. It even teaches that Muhammad is the Messiah (AI Masih), although the Quran teaches that Jesus is the Messiah.

You Can Read the Gospel (Injil) in Arabic!

The Injil, along with the rest of Bible, has been translated into Arabic. Followers of Isa Al-Masih believe that every person should be able to read, hear, and understand the Gospel in his own language. The only way that a person can truly understand the Injil is to read it in his heart language. When a person has to read or even hear the Injil in any language other than their own, they will miss things. Therefore, the Injil has been translated into Arabic. Thus Arabic speakers can read the Injil in their own language.

Arabic

Allah is Not Limited by Language!

Allah is not limited to only one language. He is all-knowing and can understand every language! Allah wants us to come to Him using our heart language. Allah knows that this is important if we are to truly understand Him. We must use our heart language to express our deepest thoughts and emotions.

The Injil is for everyone! Allah wants all people to understand the Gospel so they can know Him through Isa Al-Masih. “For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son (Isa Al-Masih) that all who believe in Him will not die but have eternal life” (Injil, John 3:16). God sent Isa Al-Masih to earth to die for the sins of the whole world! Thanks for this very useful article that you’ve written. Unfortunately, I do not believe Muhammad or his contemporaries had an Arabic version of the Bible, nor any of the original language copies. If he ever held it in his hands it must have been in the original languages.

One of the oldest Arabic Bibles was discovered in the 19th century at Saint Catherine’s Monastery, Mount Sinai, Egypt. The manuscript called Mt. Sinai Arabic Codex 151, dates back to AD 867, which is about 200 years after the first copy of the Quran was compiled and distributed.

      Dear Stefan,

Yes, there is no Islamic gospel version. But there is the Bible translation in Arabic. The Arabic people can understand well the Bible if they read in Arabic. Thank you for your good information.

By the time of Mohammed (pbuh), there were translations done in Syrian, Coptic (Egypt) and Aramaic (Palestine) languages as well as Latin (Romans). It seems Muhammad (pbuh) was sure the Torah (Tawrat), Psalms (Zaboor), and Gospel (Injil) existed. They are authentic and valid. If not, he would not have encouraged people to believe and follow those books.

However, I don’t believe contemporaries had an Arabic version, nor any of the original language copies to be shown to the Holy Prophet (pbuh). If he ever held it in his hands it must have been in the original languages.

Sinai Arabic Codex 151, dated back to in AD 867, which is about 200 years after the first copy of the Quran was compiled and distributed. Why was this so late in history?

    1. Why isn’t there an Islamic Version Gospel?
Answer: Because Islam came after Christianity.

    2. Why should all people read the Injil?
Answer: (a) It’s the Word of God.
    (b) The Quran repeatedly confirms it.
    (c) God commands Muslims to believe in it.

    3. Do you want to read the Injil?
Answer: I have already read it. It exposes our sinful nature. It makes us realize our need for salvation, and shows us the only way to salvation through His One and Only Son, Jesus (May His peace be upon us) who paid the penalty for our sins once and for all.

      Chris,

Thank you for your comment. You are right that Muslims should read the Injil. In fact, the Quran encourages them to do so. Even though there are a lot of contradictions between the Quran and Bible, they shouldn’t be afraid that they would be misguided because God will guide them. “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right
      and teaches them his way.”
      (Zabur, Psalm 25:8-9)
