Is it possible for Allah to speak directly with human beings nowadays? According to Islam, there is no way Allah can talk directly with Muslims unless that person is a prophet. Usually, God would send His angel (Jibril / Gabriel), and the angel would talk to a prophet.
The prophet would then convey God’s message to the people. Yet, the truth is, God desires to talk to every person in the world. How can Allah talk directly with us?
Islam’s View on God Talking to People
Most Muslims believe that Allah spoke to only three prophets: Adam, Moses, and Muhammad:
- In the Hadith Shahih Bukhari (4:55:543), Allah talked to Adam when God created him.
- In the Quran, God spoke with Moses: “. . . and to Moses Allah spoke direct” (Qs 4:164).
- In the Taurat, God spoke directly to Moses: “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend . . .” (Taurat, Exodus 33:11).
The Quran and many Hadiths wrote about the Prophet Muhammad’s journey to heaven (Isra Mi’raj). Muslims believe that God spoke directly to the Prophet at that time. However, nobody knows exactly what God told Muhammad, and there were no witnesses on that occasion.
God’s Other Ways of Communicating
Islam also teaches that God can communicate with human beings through dreams. Some Quran experts believe that dreams are considered revelations.
There are many people all over the world who have had dreams and meet Isa Al-Masih in their dreams. These are not regular dreams, and they know the dream is real and it’s from God. There is one example here.
Christianity’s View on God Talking to People
God’s relationship with human beings is like a Father and His son. God loves all people, and wants to communicate with everyone. He communicates directly with them through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth . . .” (Injil, John 16:13).
So it’s possible that Allah talk directly with Muslims. If you want to hear God’s voice and talk with Him every day, you must have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given only to the people who follow Isa Al-Masih.

If God speaks to people through Prophets, how does God speak to Muslims after the death of Prophet Muhammad? There is only one Prophet who is professed to be alive by both Islam and Christianity – that is Prophet Isa Al-Masih. So why shouldn’t Muslims follow Isa Al-Masih as He is the way (Injil John 14:6). God speaks to Isa (Injil John 14:24) and He speaks to people through the Spirit (Injil John 16:13)?

Dear Makongoro,
You are right that Isa (Jesus) is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). People who accept Isa as their Savior will receive the Spirit of truth who will guide them into all truth about God (John 16:13).
Muslims should believe in Isa Al-Masih as their Messiah (Savior) because it’s written in the Quran. Jesus [Isa] is the Messiah (Qs 3:45) and the guidance and the light for the righteous (Qs 5:46).
