Can Allah Talk Directly With Muslims?

13 January 2017 by Jasmin 8 Comments

MosesIs it possible for Allah to speak directly with human beings nowadays? According to Islam, there is no way Allah can talk directly with Muslims unless that person is a prophet. Usually, God would send His angel (Jibril / Gabriel), and the angel would talk to a prophet.

The prophet would then convey God’s message to the people. Yet, the truth is, God desires to talk to every person in the world. How can Allah talk directly with us?

Islam’s View on God Talking to People

Most Muslims believe that Allah spoke to only three prophets: Adam, Moses, and Muhammad:

  1. In the Hadith Shahih Bukhari (4:55:543), Allah talked to Adam when God created him.
  2. In the Quran, God spoke with Moses: “. . . and to Moses Allah spoke direct” (Qs 4:164).
  3. In the Taurat, God spoke directly to Moses: “The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend . . .” (Taurat, Exodus 33:11).

The Quran and many Hadiths wrote about the Prophet Muhammad’s journey to heaven (Isra Mi’raj). Muslims believe that God spoke directly to the Prophet at that time. However, nobody knows exactly what God told Muhammad, and there were no witnesses on that occasion.

God’s Other Ways of Communicating

Islam also teaches that God can communicate with human beings through dreams. Some Quran experts believe that dreams are considered revelations.

There are many people all over the world who have had dreams and meet Isa Al-Masih in their dreams. These are not regular dreams, and they know the dream is real and it’s from God. There is one example here.

Christianity’s View on God Talking to People

God’s relationship with human beings is like a Father and His son. God loves all people, and wants to communicate with everyone. He communicates directly with them through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth . . .” (Injil, John 16:13).

So it’s possible that Allah talk directly with Muslims. If you want to hear God’s voice and talk with Him every day, you must have the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is given only to the people who follow Isa Al-Masih.

If God speaks to people through Prophets, how does God speak to Muslims after the death of Prophet Muhammad? There is only one Prophet who is professed to be alive by both Islam and Christianity – that is Prophet Isa Al-Masih. So why shouldn’t Muslims follow Isa Al-Masih as He is the way (Injil John 14:6). God speaks to Isa (Injil John 14:24) and He speaks to people through the Spirit (Injil John 16:13)?

      Dear Makongoro,

You are right that Isa (Jesus) is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). People who accept Isa as their Savior will receive the Spirit of truth who will guide them into all truth about God (John 16:13).

Muslims should believe in Isa Al-Masih as their Messiah (Savior) because it’s written in the Quran. Jesus [Isa] is the Messiah (Qs 3:45) and the guidance and the light for the righteous (Qs 5:46).

This is wrong. Only prophets can hear God. If you are Muslim, do not believe this.

      Dear Juwan,

The true living God can hear you and everyone else. Jesus Christ is the living Word of God who wants to save you from the punishment of hell. We invite you to accept Jesus Christ as your God and Savior so you can go to heaven.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
      (‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
      (‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”
      (‭‭Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

      Dear Y,

The previous Scriptures and supreme authority refer to the books of the Bible and Jesus Christ. Quran 5:46 confirms it. Even the Quran commands Muslims to read the Bible and to follow Jesus not Muhammad.

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous (Qs 5:46).

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

We invite you to accept Jesus Christ as your God and Savior for the repentance of sins so you can go to heaven.

“O People of the Book! Do not go to extremes regarding your faith; say nothing about Allah except the truth.1 The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger of Allah and the fulfilment of His Word through Mary and a spirit ˹created by a command˺ from Him.2 So believe in Allah and His messengers and do not say, “Trinity.” Stop!—for your own good. Allah is only One God. Glory be to Him! He is far above having a son! To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.” Quran 4:171

      Dear Y,

The Quran also instructs Muslims to read the Bible to find the truth (Qs 3:3) because Jesus was sent as the guidance and the light for the righteous (Qs 5:46). Muslims are commanded to obey Jesus because He is the Straight Way and the Sign at the Judgement Day (Qs 43:61-63, 3:55-56). Finally, anyone who rejects the Faith in Jesus will be severely punished (Qs 3:4, 2:87-90).

He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. Before, as guidance for the people. And He revealed the Qur’an. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah will have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution (Qs 3:3-4).

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous (Qs 5:46).

And indeed, Jesus will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path. And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy. And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, “I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allah and obey me (Qs 43:61-63).
