Hadith About the Fly in a Drink: Wisdom from Allah?

22 October 2021 by Web Administrator Leave a Comment

Baqir was eating with a friend when all the sudden a fly landed in his friend’s drink. But to Baqir’s surprise, the friend calmly dipped the fly in the drink. He said he was following the teaching of the Hadith and flies can bring healing.

After that, Baqir desired to learn more about the Hadith about the fly in a drink. He wanted to know if Allah really taught this and if it’s true. Read below to see what Baqir found so you can know the source of true healing.

Hadith About Fly in Drink

Baqir searched for the Hadith and finally found one that is considered authentic. “The Prophet said, ‘If a house fly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink) and take it out, for one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure for the disease’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3320).

He found this verse fascinating, so he researched it according to Islamic teaching and from a scientific perspective.

Islamic Teaching About the Fly Hadith

Baqir began by asking an Islamic teacher and reading articles on the internet. He found an explanation from Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya saying this Hadith is true in two ways.

First, he said the fly doesn’t contaminate the drink because the fly has no blood. Second, he claimed there is research that indicates the left wing of the fly has bacteria but the right wing does not. This could possibly mean there are antibacterial properties on the wing.

This sounded good, but Baqir also wanted to see what scientists have to say about this Hadith.

Hadith About Fly in Drink from Science

One study from Penn State University found that flies are full of bacteria. In one housefly, there are as many as 351 different types of bacteria!

Another study actually believes the fly’s body can contain up to 33 million bacteria, including 6 million bacteria on the legs!

Many governments and WHO have warned about the dangers of flies. They strongly encourage people to keep all food and drink away from flies and sanitized. Here are a few illnesses and symptoms believed to be caused by flies:

  1. Diarrhea
  2. Dysentery
  3. Cholera
  4. Typhoid
  5. Bird flu
  6. Polio
  7. Hepatitis
  8. Sinus infection
  9. Vomiting
  10. Worms

Baqir kept reading and found more interesting information. For example, there are species of flies that suck blood. And there is yet to be any scientific proof that flies provide antibacterial properties to people.

Baqir thought of several important questions related to this.

  • Even if there are antibacterial properties on flies, are they enough to counteract the 33 million bad bacteria?
  • Are there differences with different species of flies?
  • How long should the fly be dipped in the drink before it activates the antibacterial properties?

Sadly, he couldn’t find the answers to these questions.

Wisdom from the Hadith

While doing this research, Baqir came across an interesting verse in the Quran. “… Those On whom, besides God, Ye call, cannot create (Even) a fly, if they all Met together for the purpose …” (Qs 22:73).

This verse clearly states that only Allah has the power to give life. But, Baqir is also familiar with this verse: “… I [Isa Al-Masih] quicken the dead …” (Qs 3:49).

Baqir wondered, “If only Allah has the power to give life, then why can Isa raise the dead to life?”

Why Isa Has the Power to Give Life

Baqir found a follower of Isa to ask about this. That person explained that Isa Al-Masih is the expression of Allah’s love toward mankind. Through Isa, we can know the straight path that leads to life.

“Isa said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?’” (Gospels, John 11:25-26).

The Quran and Injil both state that Isa was able to raise people from the dead, and He healed many other people. Isa Al-Masih is the source of true life.

Isa Al-Masih is able to protect you from getting sick and heal you from your diseases. He has done it before many times and continues to do it today.

Allah’s mercy is available if you want to believe in Isa. You will receive Allah’s blessing both in this life and in the life to come.

“Whoever believes in the Son of God [Isa Al-Masih] accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son” (Injil, 1 John 5:10-11).

Come to Isa today to experience true life!
