Muslims often ask about how to prepare for Ramadan. Having this knowledge is vital so the fasting is not in vain.
Allah wants his followers to focus on mending relationships before fasting and worship. Two relationships are the most important – relationships with others and with Allah. If we reconcile these two relationships before fasting, inshallah (Lord willing) our fasting will be accepted by Allah.
Reconciling Our Relationships with Others
Muslims are often taught about the importance of restoring relationships before Ramadan so Allah will accept our fasting.
The Muslim scholar, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, believes that sin alienates us from other people. The Word of Allah teaches relationships with others and with Allah are closely related. “. . . if you are offering your gift . . . first go and be reconciled to them [brothers and sisters] . . .” (Injil, Matthew 5:24).
If we want a strong relationship with our friends and family, we must first remove our sin.
Reconciling Our Relationship with Allah
Before we can truly reconcile our relationship with others, we must reconcile our relationship with Allah – because our relationship with Him affects all other relationships.
We have all sinned, and our sin causes a serious problem with our relationship with Allah. Maybe this week you have been prideful, felt hate towards someone, lied, forgotten to perform salah (prayers), etc.
Ibn Qayyim explains that sin has the effect of “being deprived of knowledge for knowledge is light that Allah causes to reach the heart, and sin extinguishes that light.” The Word of Allah states, “. . . the wages of sin is death [hell] . . .” (Injil, Romans 6:23).
How to Restore Our Relationship with Allah
This brings us back to the question of how to prepare for Ramadan. We must restore our relationship with Allah, but how can we do that with a sinful heart?
According to Islam, you need to perform salah five times per day, read the Quran, give alms, etc. However, is that enough to cleanse your heart from all of your sin and evil thoughts? Is there enough time to do this before Ramadan? Send us your answers here.
There is actually one way to ensure your heart will be cleansed and your relationship with Allah restored: “. . . God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ [Isa], not counting people’s sins against them . . .” (Injil, 2 Corinthians 5:19).
Isa Al-Masih is the key to preparing yourself for Ramadan. Why?
Isa Al-Masih can fully restore your relationship with Allah because only He is able to forgive your sins forever. “. . . we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ [Isa Al-Masih] once for all” (Injil, Hebrews 10:10).
Isa Al-Masih sacrificed Himself to remove all your sin. Email us if you want Isa to restore your relationship with Allah.
