The Muslim Problem of Tauhid – God’s Oneness

14 August 2012 by Jasmin 39 Comments

bigstock-Ancient-Celtic-Triskele-Symbol-38099884Many people say the concept of the one true God in three Persons (Trinity) is hard to understand. So is every other concept about God. The concept of the oneness of God (Tauhid) is also hard to grasp.

The Tauhid concept presents a God who is not perfect. God can only be seen as perfect if one understands Him as three distinct Persons.

Let’s look at several weaknesses in the “Oneness” or “Unitarian” concept of God:

1. If the Tauhid Concept is True, God Was Alone from All Eternity

God is eternal. He existed even before He created the universe. Was God alone before man existed?

The understanding of a Triune God answers this problem. God, who is three Persons, always existed. Within the one true God, there was eternal interaction between the three Persons of the Godhead. God was never alone.

2. If the Tauhid Concept is True, God Does Not Have the Attribute of Love

Love can only be expressed if there is another to love. If there is no one to love, love cannot be expressed.

In the Triune God, the eternal God does not depend on His creation for His attribute of love. Within the Triune God the Spirit of God loves God the Father and God the Word. God the Word loves God the Spirit and God the Father. God the Father loves God the Spirit and God the Word. The one true God in three Persons always existed in a divine circle of eternal love. If God was alone before He created the universe, there was no one to love. If God created man so that he could express His love, then His attribute of love depended on His creation. According to this scenario, love did not exist before the creation.

3. According to the Tauhid Concept, God’s Ability to Communicate is Limited

According to the Tauhid theory, God did not communicate before the creation.  The Tauhid concept teaches that before anything was created, God existed alone, by Himself, without a relationship with anyone.

The concept of the Triune God solves this problem too. From all eternity, there was communication within the Divine Trinity.

4. The Tauhid Concept Forces Muslims to Reject the Eternal Existence of the Quran

Kitab-01It is widely believed among Muslims only that the Quran is eternal. This verse is often quoted as proof, “Nay, but it is a glorious Al-Quran preserved on an eternal stone tablet” (Qs 85:21-22).

If the Quran does not have a beginning, then there are two eternal things: God and the Quran. If a person holds to the concept of Tauhid, that God is One, then he is forced to reject the idea that the Quran is eternal.

5.  The Concept of Tauhid Says that Man is Alone

The teaching of the oneness of God tells man that God is separated from him. God is alone, and man is alone.

Man cannot know God. The Sufis try to overcome this belief by saying, “God is closer to him (mankind) than his jugular vein” (Qs 50:16).  But generally, Muslims see Allah as separated from mankind.

The Triune God overcomes this too. The Divine Word became man. He lived among us as Isa Al-Masih. When He returned to heaven, God the Spirit came down and filled the heart of every believer. “God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, who cries, ‘Abba! Father!'” (Injil, Galatians 4:6).

Conclusion

Christians also admit that the Trinity is hard to explain. Yet it is more difficult to solve the theological and philosophical problems related to Tauhid or Oneness.  If the two are compared, the Trinity is more easily understood and gives a more rational understanding of God.

We must remember that God is not far from man. He is not separated from us. We are not alone! In the Person of the Word of God, the Kalimah Allah, He came to this world.  He came to save us and to live in us. He asks every person to come to Him and receive His salvation. Isa Al-Masih invites us: “Come unto Me, everyone who is weary and heavy laden. I will give you rest” (Injil, Apostle Matthew 11:28).

God loves you and waits to hear from you.  Isa Al-Masih said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). It is very clear that the writer of the article on Tauhid has a very very very small knowledge on Tauhid and Islam.

Allah says that the Quran is preserved on an eternal stone tablet means that the Qur’an has a preserver and therefore has a beginning.

The Quran is only Allah’s messages to humans. So if you don’t have logical understanding of issues, stop confusing others. Islam is the most logical religion, free of contradictions. Please note that the concept of the Trinity has no logical correlation as the writer admitted.

      Adam,

Thanks for your comment. I think that you would agree with me that all things are possible with God. This phrase also means that God is greater than us that no one can measure Him. In fact, we can only know little bit of God. And this little thing can we be known if only God reveal it to us. The Trinity concept is revealed by God and it’s logical.
