How A Muslim Man Can Have a Lasting Marriage: 3 Promises

Kitab 07Ahmad became engaged to Maryam. They loved each other. They had a good income, and a festive wedding. What an ideal marriage!

Unfortunately, after five years, they no longer loved each other. The romance was gone. Only a vacuum remained, and they divorced!

Why? Every marriage faces problems. A Muslim’s marriage doesn’t have to end in divorce! How to have a lasting Muslim marriage is a key concern!

Muslim husbands must keep three promises in order to have a lasting marriage.

#1: Appreciate Your Wife as an Equal Partner

Wives are generally considered weak and underprivileged. Some religious teachings support this idea. “Allah made men to excel women. Men are superior to women and are better than women” (Qs 4:34).

However, every sociological study has proven that in general, women exceed men. Therefore, husbands should get rid of the false idea above. Husbands shouldn’t undervalue or insult their wives!

#2: Love Only Your Wife

If a husband has an affair with another women, it hurts his wife. Addiction to pornography makes a husband unloyal to his wife mentally. Polygamy is even more hurtful, even if his religion allows him to do so. “… Marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four …” (Qs 4:3).

A husband who loves his wife must rid polygamy from his mind. Promise your wife that you will not have a second wife.

#3: Always Treat Your Wife Lovingly

There will always be some conflict in a marriage. Spouses will disagree on finances, how to raise children, etc. These disputes sometimes cause a husband to beat his wife.

This is the wrong thing to do, even though the Quran allows it. “Admonish women who disobey … beat them” (Qs 4:34). As a Muslim man, promise not to hurt your wife, verbally or physically.

The Injil Teaches Muslims and Christians How to Treat Their Wives:

1. Love, take care of, and sacrifice for her (Ephesians 5:25).
2. Respect her (I Peter 3:7).
3. Don’t treat her harshly (Colossians 3:19).Kitab 134. Don’t deprive her of sex (I Corinthians 7:3-5).
5. Always be faithful, stay away from adultery (Hebrews 13:4).
6. Always be united as one (Matthew 19:5).

Are you a Muslim? Do you love your wife? Do you want to make her happy? The secret is to fulfill the three promises above. (1) Respect her and value her; (2) Love only her; (3) Do not be harsh, but be tender toward her.

The above mentioned about the Quran is wrong. Even nowadays Muslims don't believe like that anymore, because the versus needs interpretation, referring to its historical backgrounds.

The reality in Islam is completely different with the biased views that is raised here.

Unfortunately today Muslims have no enough media to raise their voice loud. Please refer to reality not perverted definition of Islam and Quran.

Dear Ali,

Thank you for your comment. We appreciate your point of view. Maybe you could give an explanation the interpretation nowadays. Also, is the interpretation is still according to the Quran?
